NEW THINGS HAPPEN

     The self satisfied conservative rhetoric of the Bush administration was punctuated by the collapse of the very system that conservatives claimed was so wonderful, so productive, so worthy of imitation.  There was really neither conservative nor liberal about it.  Virtually all practical politicians lined up to rubber stamp the conservative consensus.  Even now the liberals don't seem to notice that conservative myths were deceptive and the status quo ante cannot be restored, nor should it be.

It was unthinkable that the financial system, that capitalism itself might really collapse but it happened.  So the Republicans and Democrats did the unthinkable  and bailed out the rich who created the crisis with trillions of dollars in public indebtedness.  It was socialism and hence unthinkable but it was socialism to guarantee that our bankrupt rulers could continue to rule and hence thinkable enough to liberals and conservatives at the the end of the day.  


Obama is President and I have heard many African-Americans say they never thought they would see the day when someone with some African blood would be President.  Obama and his supporters proved that belief to be mistaken.

Of course some cannot accept the fact that a person of recent African ancestry is in the White House.  Does anyone remember the pre-election rumor that Obama would paint the White House black!  No wonder so many of us are surprised the good guys won with so many crazy cracker ideas like that one out there and actually being taken seriously by people who can vote!


And what about the fact that about one out of every five Republicans believes that Obama is the Anti-Christ?  What is more unthinkable, that a person in the 21st Century would seriously entertain such a belief as a possibility or that so many Republicans do believe it?


What is more unthinkable, that 18 percent of Republicans think Obama is the Anti-Christ or that the other 82 percent of the Republicans are their bitches even though they don't think such idiotic things?


Of course socialism for the workers and small business folks and middle class, this is still unthinkable.  Everything has to be run through a private capitalist even if all they money comes from the taxpayer!
